“To fully relate to another, one must first relate to oneself. If we cannot embrace our own aloneness, we will simply use the other as a shield against isolation.” ― Irvin D. Yalom
Michael didn’t take a traditional path to becoming a therapist.
Before entering the counselling profession, he spent years working in the trades and made a major career change in his late 30s. For much of his own life, Michael believed that struggles were something to carry quietly and figure out alone. His experience with therapy challenged that belief and showed him the value of facing discomfort, building meaningful connection, and allowing other people into the parts of life that can be difficult to navigate by ourselves.
That experience continues to shape the kind of therapist Michael strives to be: genuine, engaged, accepting, and willing to be present with you in the work.
As a male therapist, Michael also offers a unique male perspective for clients who value that experience in the therapy room, particularly those who may find it difficult to talk openly about emotions, relationships, identity, or the pressures and expectations they carry.
Michael supports adolescents and adults who may be experiencing:
Michael draws from humanistic, psychodynamic, and cognitive approaches to understand the whole person rather than reducing someone to a diagnosis or a list of symptoms.
His work balances insight with practical change. Therapy might involve understanding how past experiences continue to influence the present, examining patterns in the way you think or relate to others, identifying strengths you’ve overlooked, or developing new tools for responding to life’s challenges.
Michael doesn’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Therapy is an ongoing process, and he adapts the work as your needs, understanding, and goals evolve.
Michael doesn’t see the therapist’s role as sitting quietly on the sidelines.
He sees therapy as a relationship and a shared process. He is an active and invested presence in the room—someone willing to listen closely, ask meaningful questions, offer perspective, encourage you, and sometimes sit with you in the discomfort that comes before change.
You remain the person steering your own life. Michael’s role is to travel alongside you, helping you understand where you’ve been, recognize what’s getting in the way, and consider where you might want to go next.
Connection is central to Michael’s work. He understands how easy it can be to believe that we should handle difficult things ourselves, particularly in a culture that often celebrates independence and self-reliance. For boys and men, there can also be powerful messages about staying strong, keeping things in, or solving problems without asking for help.
Michael offers a space where those expectations don’t have to dictate the conversation. Being supported doesn’t make the work less yours. Sometimes it makes the work possible.
Michael provides individual psychotherapy to adolescents ages 12+ and adults.
His down-to-earth, engaged style may be particularly appealing to teens who aren’t sure how they feel about therapy yet, as well as adults looking for a therapist who feels genuine, collaborative, and actively involved in the conversation.
Michael also offers a male perspective that may be especially meaningful for adolescent boys and men who would prefer to work with a male therapist or who want a space to explore emotions, relationships, identity, expectations, or life changes with someone who understands some of the pressures that can accompany those experiences.
His own non-traditional path may also resonate with clients navigating major changes, questioning the direction their life has taken, or discovering that handling everything alone isn’t working anymore.
