What is a Psychologist?

August 1, 2018 By

A psychologist is a mental health professional who has extensive training in how people think, feel and behave. Psychologists are able to assess, diagnose and treat individuals with wide range of mental health difficulties.

In Ontario, to hold a title of Psychologist an individual must have completed a Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. This involves approximately ten years of university study and thousands of hours of supervised clinical practice. In addition, a psychologist must pass two written and one oral exam administered by the College. Psychologists with a doctoral degree have one of the highest levels of education and training.

A Registered Psychologist is licensed and regulated by the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
